Sorting packages based on dimensions
The system discards only big packages (the sensor is set to a certain height; if a package reaches it, it is discarded)
This project is the Slovenian 2023 Thinkerlab Hackaton Winner!
Additional Info
-
What you will learn:
- Science
- - Function analysis of the sorting system (post office, airport, ..)
- Engineering:
- - Solving problems regarding the choice of the material and components,
- - Research of the function of individual components,
- Math:
- - Analysis of the motor operation: angle of rotation, dimensioning of the overall dimensions of the system
- Technology:
- - Controller programming
-
Expected Time:
Less than 5 hours
-
Materials & Recycled Materials:
- - Arduino + connection to the computer
- - breadboard
- - wires
- - Led light (green)
- - electrical resitance 100 Ohm
- - phototransistor
- - electrical resistance 10k Ohm

-
Guide:
- 1. Prepare the above mentioned components.
- 2. Install the components following these pictures:
-
Further Steps:
If you want more fun you can try to:
- - discard only red packages (the sensor detects red colour and discards the package from the system).
- - discard the packages that contain ferromagnetic substances (the sensor detects the ferromagnetic substances and discards the package from the system)
-
Software used in the project:
- - Arduino IDE
- Difficulty level: Medium
